Melania Trump’s sweet whisper to Donald before greeting leaders

Melania Trump and her husband, former US President Donald Trump, reached Rome on Saturday. They went there to attend the funeral of Pope Francis. Many big leaders from around the world were also there. Before Trump spoke to anyone, Melania bent close to him and whispered something into his ear.

The funeral took place at St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican City. Trump and Melania sat close to French President Emmanuel Macron and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. At first, Trump looked shy about doing the "Sign of Peace," where people smile and shake hands with each other during the prayer. Melania softly spoke some words to give him courage, as the Irish Star newspaper shared.

A lip reader named Nicola Hickling told the Irish Star that Melania whispered five words to Trump: "You should go do it." She repeated the words again, and Trump answered with a small smile, saying, "Oh alright."

A body language expert named Judi James said that Melania’s little whisper was "sweet" and helped Trump know what to do at the right time. After listening to Melania, Trump began shaking hands with the people nearby. When he shook hands with President Macron, it looked stronger and warmer than normal. Trump pulled Macron’s hand closer to his own body, which Trump often does when greeting others. Macron gave a friendly smile and kept looking into Trump’s eyes, showing they had good friendship. Judi James said Trump was friendly, but at the end of the handshake, he got a little distracted because he turned to talk to another leader while still holding Macron’s hand.

Before the funeral, Trump told the news reporters that he was attending the ceremony "out of respect" for Pope Francis. Even though Trump and the Pope had disagreed about things like immigration, helping travelers, and looking after the Earth’s weather, Trump said it was important to show respect. Trump also gave an order for all US flags to fly at half their usual height to honor Pope Francis.

During the trip, Trump also met with some leaders on the side of the funeral. One of these meetings was with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. After talking with Trump, Zelensky said the meeting was "very good" and helpful.
