Mansoor bin Mohammed Honors Rory McIlroy as DP World Tour Champion

Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland made history by winning his sixth ‘Race to Dubai’ title and his third win in a row. The DP World Tour Championship, now in its 16th year, was held at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, gave McIlroy the winner’s trophy. This event was the final competition of the season and part of the famous Rolex Series.

The tournament ended on Sunday, bringing together the best 50 golfers from the Race to Dubai rankings. They competed for a huge prize of $10 million. McIlroy not only won the tournament but was also named the best player of the season. His Highness Sheikh Mansoor gave him the Harry Vardon Cup for being the top player. This is the sixth time McIlroy has earned this honor, with wins in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2022, and 2023.

McIlroy won a big prize for his victory. He got $3 million for winning the tournament and another $2 million for being the season’s top player, making a total of $5 million. He played very well, finishing at 15-under-par, two shots ahead of Rasmus Hojgaard from Denmark, who finished at 13-under-par in second place.

Important guests attended the awards event, including Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the Chairman and CEO of DP World Group, and other top officials.

This year’s tour had a new format. The final matches were held in the UAE, starting with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links for the top 70 players. The season ended in Dubai with the DP World Tour Championship for the best 50 players.

The 2024 DP World Tour had 44 tournaments in 24 countries, with the world’s best golfers competing under the Race to Dubai. This championship showed why the UAE is a great place for big sports events.
