Despite the apparent approval from his audience at that moment, the backlash has led to significant consequences for Hinchcliffe. He has lost several gigs and was dropped by the talent agency William Morris Endeavor. Reactions to his remarks have been divided; while some defend his comedic style, suggesting that the context may not reflect the entirety of his set, many find his comments offensive and unacceptable.

The resurfacing of the clip coincided with Hinchcliffe facing criticism for calling Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage."
