The introduction of air-conditioned electric-hybrid ferries in Kochi has been a highly anticipated development. The launch of the water metro service, facilitating travel between the bustling High Court and the newly completed Fort Kochi, represents a significant milestone in the city's transportation infrastructure.
Key Details:
- Fort Kochi serves as a pivotal tourism hub in Kochi, and the water metro service is scheduled to operate at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes from 7 AM to 7 PM, offering travelers convenient access to the scenic locale.
- Priced affordably at INR 40 per person, the ticket ensures cost-effective transportation along this picturesque route.
Cochin Shipyard recently delivered the 14th ferry as part of an order placed by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). With a total order of 23 ferries, KMRL aims to alleviate traffic congestion in this popular tourist destination, as highlighted in a press release.
Kochi proudly emerges as India's pioneer in introducing a water metro service, with the inaugural boat, christened Muziris, setting sail in December 2021. Presently, Kochi Water Metro Rail Limited operates from eight terminals, namely Vyttila, High Court, Vypeen, Kakkanad, Bolgatty, South Chittoor, Cheranalloor, and Eloor.
The addition of Fort Kochi as the ninth terminal serves to further augment the accessibility and connectivity of this innovative transportation system, catering to the diverse travel needs of residents and tourists alike.
