King Charles III and Prince William are poised to make a historic journey beyond the borders of the United Kingdom this Friday, marking the monarch's inaugural trip abroad since his cancer diagnosis. Buckingham Palace confirmed their attendance at the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, set to unfold in Normandy, France.
At the age of 75, King Charles III is set to grace a celebratory gathering at the British Normandy Memorial in northern France on June 6, according to a statement released by the palace. This momentous occasion follows a recent resumption of public duties for the monarch, signaling his determination to fulfill his royal obligations despite health challenges.

The announcement comes amidst widespread speculation regarding the king's health and his capacity to partake in such significant events, following the disclosure of his cancer diagnosis in February. In a candid revelation, King Charles disclosed the loss of his sense of taste as a consequence of his battle with cancer.
However, dispelling doubts, it has been confirmed that King Charles, alongside Queen Camilla and Prince William, will actively participate in the D-Day commemorations. Prior to their departure for France, the royal trio will pay homage at a ceremony in Portsmouth on June 5, a poignant tribute to the Allied forces whose sacrifices during World War Two were instrumental in liberating France from Nazi occupation.
Princess Anne is slated to unveil a statue in Normandy, honoring the significant contributions of Canadian forces during the D-Day operations. Following the unveiling, she will partake in a solemn remembrance service at the Bayeux Cathedral.
On June 6, King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to attend a ceremony at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, paying homage to over 20,000 soldiers who bravely served under British command and laid down their lives during the Battle of Normandy.
Meanwhile, Prince William, aged 41, will join a ceremony at Omaha Beach in Saint Laurent sur Mer, an event expected to draw the presence of 25 heads of state. However, notable by her absence will be Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, who continues her recovery journey following her own cancer diagnosis. The 42-year-old princess is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy and convalescing at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
