Kashmir weather: Rain in Srinagar, snow in Gulmarg delight tourists.

The picturesque Kashmir Valley experienced substantial rainfall across its plains on March 22nd, while Gulmarg, nestled in the north of Kashmir's Baramulla district, was adorned with a blanket of pristine white snow. The enchanting snowfall brought joy and delight to visitors, enhancing the scenic beauty of the region. Meteorological Department (MeT) officials reported a snowfall accumulation of 1.5 cm in Gulmarg.

In Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir, reports emerged of light to moderate rainfall, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures. MeT office data revealed precipitation figures for the preceding 24 hours until 8:30 AM on Friday: Srinagar 9.7 mm, Qazigund 3.4 mm, Pahalgam 16 mm, Kupwara 9.2 mm, Kokernag 2.9 mm, and Gulmarg 18.4 mm.

Overcast skies persisted, with forecasts predicting continued rain or snowfall in Kashmir until March 26, followed by intermittent light precipitation from March 27 onward, extending for the subsequent four days.

Nighttime temperatures across various weather stations in Kashmir experienced a decline, albeit remaining above freezing levels. Daytime temperatures also witnessed a significant decrease, with Srinagar recording 16.2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day's 22.8 degrees Celsius. The night low in Srinagar was 7.2 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees Celsius above normal, while Qazigund reached 7 degrees Celsius, a slight increase from the previous night's 6 degrees Celsius. Kokernag reported 5.6 degrees Celsius, down from 8.2 degrees Celsius recorded the preceding night.

Gulmarg saw nighttime temperatures plummet to -0.5 degrees Celsius from the previous night's 3.2 degrees Celsius, remaining 1.1 degrees Celsius above normal. Pahalgam marked 3.7 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal levels by 3.3 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara settled at 6.6 degrees Celsius, 3.4 degrees Celsius above normal.

The MeT office issued advisories urging residents and tourists to prepare for potential further precipitation and fluctuations in temperatures in the upcoming days. Travelers planning a visit to Kashmir in the coming days are advised to pack rain essentials to ensure a comfortable experience amidst the captivating landscapes of the region.
