Karachi is facing a troubling situation as the discovery of unidentified bodies across the city has risen to 22, according to a report from Geo News on Wednesday. The latest development came with the discovery of five new bodies on Tuesday, highlighting a concerning trend of unexplained deaths.
The Chhipa Welfare Association, a non-profit organization in Pakistan, reported that three of the recently found bodies appeared to be drug addicts, as per Geo News. Despite diligent efforts by the organization's volunteers, none of the 22 bodies have been identified so far.
A spokesperson from the Chhipa Welfare Association stated that volunteers found five additional bodies in different parts of Karachi on Tuesday. The spokesperson noted, "Three of them were identified as drug addicts, but as of now, none of the bodies have been claimed or identified."

According to Geo News, the Chhipa Welfare Association, which operates a network of ambulances in Karachi, confirmed the total number of unidentified bodies as 22 after the recent discoveries. The organization also mentioned that nearly two dozen bodies remain unclaimed, with no relatives coming forward to claim them.
The deaths have been linked to a prevailing heatwave in Karachi, affecting a large number of residents who have been admitted to various hospitals due to heatstroke. This situation underscores the severe impact of the heatwave on vulnerable populations, including those living on the streets or struggling with substance abuse issues.
In a separate incident reported by ARY News, a senior citizen in Karachi was brutally assaulted by a group of drug users after confronting them about openly using drugs near his residence. The incident highlights the growing concern over drug abuse in Pakistan, particularly the use of crystal methamphetamine, known locally as Ice.
Crystal meth is a potent and highly addictive stimulant that poses significant health risks and social challenges. Its use has become increasingly prevalent among younger demographics in Pakistan, driven by factors such as accessibility and perceived effects on energy and confidence.
The escalation in drug-related incidents and the discovery of unidentified bodies underscore broader social issues and public health challenges facing Karachi and Pakistan as a whole. Authorities and civil society organizations continue to grapple with these complex issues, seeking solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
