The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a warning on Friday, cautioning Karachi residents about the persisting heatwave gripping the city. Over the next 24 hours, Karachi is expected to experience extremely hot and humid weather conditions, with temperatures forecasted to range between 40°C to 42°C.
The PMD reported that the current humidity level stands at 75%, amplifying the discomfort caused by the soaring temperatures. Additionally, winds blowing from the west at a speed of 18 kilometers per hour are exacerbating the heatwave. This scorching weather pattern is anticipated to continue until June 1.
Furthermore, the minimum temperature recorded in Karachi over the past 24 hours was 29°C, indicating little respite from the sweltering heat even during the nighttime.
Thursday saw temperatures peak at 39.5°C with humidity levels at 63%, following the hottest day of the year on record at 41.5°C.

The historical context adds weight to the severity of the current weather conditions, with Karachi having registered its highest-ever temperature of 48°C back on May 9, 1938.
The PMD underscored the broader implications of this heatwave, warning of its prevalence across southern parts of the country over the next two days. Continental air masses dominate most regions, contributing to the prolonged spell of scorching temperatures.
Given these circumstances, Karachi residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the adverse effects of the heatwave and stay hydrated to ensure their well-being during this challenging period.
