Former Australian cricketer and current head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, Justin Langer, has expressed keen interest in the head coach role for the Indian cricket team. This curiosity arises as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opened applications for the position, which will become vacant after Rahul Dravid's tenure ends post the T20 World Cup.
Langer, in an interview with TOI, revealed his intrigue, stating, "Well, I am curious." He emphasized his deep respect for international coaching roles and acknowledged the extraordinary nature of coaching the Indian team, considering the abundant talent in the country.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has clarified that Dravid, the current head coach, would need to apply and undergo the selection process like all other candidates if he wishes to continue. However, indications suggest that Dravid is unlikely to extend his tenure, as he wasn't inclined to continue beyond his initial contract, which was extended until the T20 World Cup.

Shah hinted at the possibility of considering a foreign coach, which would mark a departure from the trend of appointing former Indian cricketers. Langer emerges as a strong contender for the position, given his impressive track record. With 105 Tests under his belt, Langer boasts extensive experience both as a player and a coach. He played a pivotal role in reviving Australian cricket post the Sandpapergate scandal in 2018 and led the team to their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2021.
Furthermore, Langer's coaching stint with the Lucknow Super Giants provides additional credibility to his candidacy. Despite a mixed performance in his debut season with LSG, Langer's coaching philosophy revolves around emphasizing player responsibility and performance, focusing on the fundamental aspect of delivering on the field.
As the speculation regarding the next head coach of the Indian cricket team intensifies, Langer's name stands out as a potential candidate, bringing a blend of experience, leadership, and a proven track record of success to the table.
