In its ongoing effort to celebrate global best practices and emerging trends in government communication, the 13th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024) will present a range of successful case studies and groundbreaking experiences in effective communication. This year's forum will feature significant contributions from Jordan, Nigeria, and Tuvalu, all of which have been shortlisted for the prestigious Sharjah Government Communication Award.
Scheduled to take place on September 4-5, 2024, at the Expo Centre Sharjah, the IGCF is organized by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau. The forum will offer a comprehensive program of 28 panel discussions and keynote addresses through its ‘Gov Talks’ and ‘Gov Dialogues’ platforms. These sessions aim to explore the latest innovations shaping the future of communication.

In addition to regional and international government representatives, the forum will see participation from various governmental, academic, and private institutions based in Sharjah and the UAE. Key contributors include the Ministry of Community Development, the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, the Sharjah Youth Council, and the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre (Sheraa). These organizations are committed to advancing sustainability, youth engagement, and innovation.
Key Projects and Innovations
Jordan will present its impactful ‘For a Drop of Water’ awareness campaign, which is nominated for the ‘Best Innovative and Resilient Communication Initiatives’ category at the Sharjah Government Communication Award. Launched by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the General Water Authority in Jordan in 2024, the campaign focuses on enhancing household water use efficiency and promoting sustainable consumption practices.
Tuvalu is showcasing its ‘World’s First Digital Nation’ project, also nominated in the same category. This ambitious initiative aims to establish Tuvalu as the world's first fully digital nation, a move designed to preserve the island nation's identity and rights in the digital age.
Nigeria will highlight its ‘Citifeed App: Eyes and Ears on Government Performance,’ which has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Innovation in Government Communication’ award. The app, developed by Kaduna State in northern Nigeria, involves the public in monitoring infrastructure projects and evaluating government performance, enhancing transparency and accountability.
Forum Highlights and Discussions
The IGCF 2024 will feature a series of inspiring speeches and discussions. Among the notable nominees for the ‘Best Communication Practices for Dealing with Developmental Changes’ category are PepsiCo’s ‘Mega Green Accelerators,’ Al-Futtaim Group’s ‘Sustainability at the Heart of Al-Futtaim’s Strategy,’ and Emirates Nature-WWF.
Gov Talks will address a range of critical topics. One key discussion, ‘How Aging Becomes the Essence of the "Silver Economy"?’ will be presented by HE Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai. Another prominent session, ‘The Creative Frontier: Can AI Redefine Media Campaigns?’ organized by the American University of Sharjah, will be led by Dr. Suheil Dahdal, Head of the Mass Communication Department.
Egyptian media personality Moataz Al-Demerdash will lead a discussion on ‘New Generation and Content Creation,’ organized by the United Arab Emirates University. Wael Ismail from PepsiCo and Dr. Yasar Jarrar from Posterity Institute will explore ‘The Power of Habits as a Driver of Real Sustainability Transformation.’ The session ‘Perception of the Youth on Openness to Cultures’ will feature content creators Amani Al Matroushi and Ibrahim Alblooshi.
Additionally, HE Ghannam Al Mazrouei, HE Ammar Al Aleeli, and Salama Al Awadhi will discuss ‘The Role of Communication in Strengthening National Industry,’ organized by Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Other sessions will cover marketing incentives, innovation in government communication, and the impact of AI on future skills and governance.
Gov Dialogues will emphasize the role of women and youth in shaping the future. Sessions led by the Executive Office of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi will focus on renewing media discourse and enhancing collaboration between government institutions and creative incubators.
The Ministry of Community Development will present success stories of youth and families in business during the ‘Meeting Across Generations… Transferring Treasures of Knowledge and Experience’ session. Other notable sessions include ‘Ahmed Al Ghfeli…Invincible Influencer,’ which highlights overcoming disability, and various discussions on innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurial success.
The forum will also address global challenges, such as empowering refugees and fostering scientific research, through discussions organized by UNHCR and other key institutions.
IGCF 2024 promises to be a dynamic platform for showcasing innovative government communication practices and exploring the future of effective communication strategies.
