A US-based company specializing in all-electric aircraft for commercial passenger service has secured a significant deal with the government of Dubai. Joby Aviation has inked a definitive agreement granting them exclusive rights to operate air taxis in the Emirate for a period of six years. This agreement, outlined in the company's financial statement, also entails financial support from the Dubai government and establishes a regulatory pathway to facilitate early operations.
The collaboration between Joby Aviation and the Dubai government further solidifies with the company receiving financial backing and support from Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA). This partnership, formalized during the World Governments Summit in February, aims to launch air taxi services by early 2026, with Joby eyeing initial operations as soon as 2025.
Bonny Simi, President of Joby Aviation, emphasized in an interview with Bloomberg that Dubai will be the primary launch location for their air taxi service, preceding any other country, including the US.
Moreover, JoeBen Bevirt, the founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, revealed plans for potential manufacturing facilities in the UAE and other regional countries during an interview with Khaleej Times. Despite already having manufacturing lines in California and Ohio, Bevirt stated that discussions are ongoing regarding manufacturing opportunities in the region, with the UAE being a prime candidate.
