On Thursday, JD Vance addressed the ongoing issue of school shootings, acknowledging that these incidents have regrettably become a “fact of life.” At a rally in Phoenix, Vance stressed the need for improved security measures in schools to prevent future tragedies, following a recent shooting in Georgia that resulted in four deaths.

Vance, who is also a Republican vice presidential nominee, stated, “If these psychos are going to go after our kids, we’ve got to be prepared for it.” He underscored that while the reality of school shootings is troubling, it must be confronted with effective solutions.
When asked about measures to address school shootings, Vance argued that further restricting gun access, as many Democrats propose, may not resolve the issue, given that such shootings occur in both states with strict and lax gun laws. He emphasized the need for increased funding for school security in Congress to enhance protection for students.
While acknowledging that heightened security at schools is an unfortunate but necessary reality, Vance stated, “I don’t like that this is a fact of life. But if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools.”
He described the recent shooting in Winder, Georgia, as an “awful tragedy” and expressed sympathy for the affected families. Vance highlighted the urgent need to address the issue to prevent future incidents.
Earlier this year, Vice President Kamala Harris visited the site of the 2018 Parkland high school massacre in Florida and announced a program to support states with laws allowing temporary gun seizures for individuals deemed dangerous. Harris has also advocated for stronger gun control measures, including a ban on AR-15 rifles, and improvements to school security, such as ensuring classroom doors do not lock from the outside.
