Israeli Strikes Kill at Least 17 in Gaza Overnight Stay Palestinians

Palestinian health officials reported that Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip overnight and into Wednesday have resulted in the deaths of at least 17 people, including five children and their parents. The strikes come ahead of new cease-fire talks aimed at ending the 10-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

One of the most devastating attacks occurred in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Late Tuesday, an Israeli strike hit a family home, killing five children, aged between 2 and 11, along with their parents. The bodies, according to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, were severely dismembered by the explosion, with the youngest child reportedly decapitated. An Associated Press reporter witnessed the aftermath, noting the extreme severity of the injuries.

In the Maghazi refugee camp, another strike early Wednesday targeted a residential home, killing four individuals and injuring several others. The violence continued in Khan Younis, where emergency services reported that four men were killed in a strike on a residential tower late Tuesday.

Additionally, a strike on a house in Beit Lahiya, located in northern Gaza, resulted in the deaths of two more individuals and injuries to five others. The Health Ministry’s emergency service has been actively recovering and identifying victims of these strikes.

Gazan health authorities have not specified whether the individuals killed were militants or civilians. Israel maintains that its military operations aim to minimize civilian casualties and attributes civilian deaths to Hamas's practice of operating within densely populated areas. The Israeli army typically does not comment on specific strikes.

The latest violence underscores the challenges facing ongoing cease-fire negotiations. The United States, Qatar, and Egypt are working to mediate a resolution, but significant disagreements remain between the conflicting parties, despite months of indirect talks.
