One Israeli soldier was tragically killed and 16 others injured during a military operation in Jenin, located in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. The incident unfolded when Israeli forces conducted a raid overnight, reportedly targeting a pharmacy just outside Jenin's urban refugee camp. Residents described extensive damage to nearby infrastructure caused by armored bulldozers deployed during the operation.
According to Israeli media, the situation escalated when a roadside bomb struck an armored vehicle carrying soldiers as they were leaving Jenin. Additional troops rushing to assist were then targeted by another bomb, resulting in the death of one soldier. Reports indicated varying degrees of injuries among the soldiers, with one in serious condition and others sustaining moderate to light wounds.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) claimed responsibility for detonating the bombs, marking a deadly escalation in the ongoing violence. Concurrently, clashes during the raid led to a young Palestinian man sustaining injuries from bullet shrapnel, as reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The conflict in the West Bank has intensified since the outbreak of hostilities in Gaza, sparked by Hamas's attack on southern Israel earlier in October. According to the UN, the toll on Palestinian lives has been significant, with 536 individuals, including members of armed groups, attackers, and civilians, reported killed in conflict-related incidents across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Of these casualties, at least 519 were attributed to Israeli forces and 10 to Israeli settlers. In parallel, 12 Israelis, including eight security personnel, lost their lives in the West Bank during the same period, with an additional eight fatalities resulting from attacks by Palestinians originating from the West Bank.
Against this backdrop, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society highlighted a recent spike in arrests, noting that 28 Palestinians, including nine from the Jenin governorate, were apprehended across the West Bank within the previous day alone. This brings the total number of arrests since October to 9,430, underscoring the heightened tensions and security measures in the region.
Jenin, known for frequent Israeli military operations, has been a focal point of these efforts, with Israeli authorities citing targets linked to Hamas and PIJ operatives in their operations. The situation further escalated on a recent occasion when Israeli military personnel reportedly violated protocol by attaching a wounded Palestinian man to the front of their jeep during operations in Jenin, drawing condemnation and intensifying local and international scrutiny of the ongoing conflict.
