Israeli Fans Attacked in Amsterdam After Football Match; 10 Injured

Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters were violently attacked in Amsterdam after their team’s football match against Ajax on Thursday night. Reports indicate that at least 10 people were injured during the attack. The incident followed earlier warnings about a pro-Palestinian protest that was planned to target the Israeli team and its fans. In response to these concerns, the Maccabi Tel Aviv team had extra protection, including Mossad agents, along with regular security personnel.

Despite these security measures, tensions flared following the match when several Maccabi supporters became the targets of violent assaults. Amsterdam police detained several individuals for rioting, although authorities did not confirm if those arrested were football fans or protestors connected to the pro-Palestinian movement. Local law enforcement also ensured additional protection for the Maccabi fans who attended the game.

Unverified videos on social media depicted disturbing scenes of fans being chased by attackers, some of whom were armed with knives. Other footage showed fans jumping into the Amsterdam canals in an attempt to escape the violence, while many took refuge in nearby shops. Reports also suggested that there was at least one attempted abduction during the chaos.

The Israeli Embassy in the Netherlands quickly mobilized to assist those affected, helping relocate Israelis to safer areas. The Israeli Embassy in the United States also set up emergency hotlines for citizens in need of assistance. These hotlines encouraged Israelis to call the numbers +97225303155 or +31634138229 for help.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett publicly called on Dutch authorities to intervene, while Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar confirmed that he had been in contact with Dutch officials and had set up a hotline for Israelis requiring aid. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office stated that two planes had been arranged to bring Israelis home safely.

Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, strongly condemned the violence, calling it a "pogrom" and labeling the attackers as supporters of radical terrorism. He urged the Western world to wake up to the severity of the situation and take immediate action against such acts of violence.

As the investigation continues, the incident has sparked widespread calls for increased security measures at future football matches involving teams from politically charged regions. The Dutch authorities have promised a thorough investigation and pledged to take all necessary steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring again. This attack highlights the growing risks faced by individuals in politically volatile environments and the need for stronger international cooperation to protect citizens during global events.
