The Israeli army has reported that the Kerem Shalom crossing, a crucial artery for aid operations into Gaza, was targeted by rocket fire from Rafah on Wednesday, resulting in light injuries to one soldier. According to military statements, eight rockets were launched from Rafah towards Kerem Shalom, prompting the injury. The crossing had been closed for three days following a previous Hamas rocket attack that claimed the lives of four soldiers.

However, it was reopened on Wednesday morning, allowing trucks from Egypt carrying essential humanitarian supplies to enter Gaza. Despite the reopening of Kerem Shalom, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, noted that the Rafah crossing remained closed.

The closure of Rafah is particularly concerning for UNRWA, as it is the primary channel for fuel, essential for the operation of aid activities. Without fuel entering through Rafah, humanitarian operations are severely hampered. The United States has joined calls for the reopening of both crossings to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
