In Beirut, Syria's defense ministry has confirmed that an Israeli airstrike conducted on Wednesday resulted in the tragic death of a young girl and the injury of 10 civilians along the coast. The attack targeted a central site and a residential building in Baniyas city within the coastal region. The ministry's statement indicated that the strike originated from the direction of Lebanon. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a war monitor, corroborated the report of the girl's death and raised the count of civilian injuries to 20.
Furthermore, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a separate Israeli raid that claimed the lives of five pro-Hezbollah fighters. This additional strike targeted central Syria and resulted in the deaths of three Syrian fighters affiliated with Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah group, along with two other non-Syrian fighters associated with the same movement.

Earlier on Wednesday, state media announced that Syrian air defenses intercepted Israeli "targets" over central Syria, specifically over the city of Homs. The Observatory confirmed the strikes, stating that they hit at least one military site in the eastern countryside of Homs, causing significant plumes of smoke.
This incident follows a drone strike conducted by Israel in central Syria near the Lebanese border on Saturday, which resulted in the deaths of two Hezbollah fighters, according to the Observatory.
Israel has maintained a policy of not commenting on individual strikes in Syria but has consistently reiterated its stance of preventing Iran from expanding its presence in the region. Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has conducted numerous strikes in Syria, primarily targeting military positions and Iran-backed fighters, including those from Hezbollah. These strikes have intensified since the commencement of Israel's conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip on October 7.
The Syrian civil war, which began in 2011 after the government crackdown on anti-government protests, has resulted in the deaths of over half a million people and the displacement of millions more.
