Israeli forces continued their offensive in northern and central Gaza on Wednesday, intensifying operations just hours after an airstrike targeted a tent encampment. Palestinian officials reported over two dozen casualties from the airstrike, prompting renewed negotiations for a ceasefire set to resume in Doha.
In response, leaflets were dropped over Gaza City, detailing "safe routes" for city-wide evacuation, urging civilians to head south towards central Gaza. The militant group Hamas alleged that the Israeli campaign on Tuesday resulted in more than 60 Palestinian deaths across the enclave, threatening ceasefire talks.
The airstrike struck tents housing displaced families near a school in Abassan, east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, killing at least 29 people, including women and children, as confirmed by Palestinian medical officials. The Israeli military stated it was investigating reports of civilian casualties, explaining the incident as a precise targeting of a Hamas fighter linked to an earlier raid on Israel.

On Wednesday, Israeli forces expanded their incursion into Gaza City, conducting house-to-house searches and shelling homes in some districts. Hospitals, including Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, were overwhelmed with casualties as the offensive escalated, raising concerns that ceasefire negotiations could be undermined.
Israeli forces patrolled Gaza's main coastal road, with snipers positioned on rooftops and tanks stationed within the UNRWA headquarters, which Israel claimed Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants had used as bases for attacks. The military justified its operations as targeting militants responsible for attacks from civilian areas, asserting it had facilitated civilian evacuations before conducting raids on militant positions.
The Palestinian Red Crescent reported numerous distress calls from trapped residents in Gaza City, unable to be reached due to ongoing airstrikes. It condemned the impact on residential areas, accusing Israeli forces of displacing civilians and damaging refuge shelters amid worsening humanitarian conditions.
In response to Israeli incursions, Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants engaged in combat with anti-tank rockets and mortar bombs, resulting in casualties in areas like Al-Nuseirat and Khan Younis. Medical sources reported deaths, including children, in airstrikes on residential buildings.
Health officials in Gaza, under Hamas administration, reported more than 38,000 Palestinian casualties since the conflict began following Hamas-led incursions into southern Israel in October, resulting in extensive fatalities and hostage-taking.
