Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has voiced concern over Israel's repeated denial of humanitarian access to Gaza. Lazzarini reported that Israeli authorities refused him entry into Gaza for the second time since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7th.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Lazzarini expressed frustration, stating, "Just this week, they have denied -- for the second time -- my entry to Gaza where I planned to be with our UNRWA colleagues including those on the front lines."

Highlighting the ongoing denial of humanitarian access, Lazzarini emphasized, "The Israeli authorities continue to deny humanitarian access to the United Nations."
The situation escalated when rocket fire led to the closure of the Kerem Shalom aid crossing between Israel and Gaza. Hamas's armed wing, Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the rocket launches, targeting Israeli troops in the area.
Responding to the attacks, the Israeli army struck a Hamas command and control center in central Gaza. The army accused Hamas of deliberately positioning the center near an active UNRWA location, endangering civilians seeking refuge there.
In light of these events, Lazzarini called for an "independent investigation" into the rocket fire and urged both parties to avoid actions that could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
UNRWA faced controversy in January when Israel accused several of its 30,000 employees of involvement in a cross-border Hamas attack on October 7th.
