A doctor from Manipal Hospital has warned that drinking raw milk can be very dangerous. Many people online believe that raw milk is healthier, but experts say this is not true. Raw milk is milk that has not been heated to kill germs. Because of this, it can carry harmful bacteria that may cause serious sickness.
Dr Sambit Bhuyan, a gastroenterologist at Manipal Hospital in Bhubaneswar, said that raw milk is unsafe for everyone. He explained that milk from cows, goats, and sheep must be pasteurised to make it safe to drink. Pasteurisation is the process of heating milk to kill dangerous germs. Raw milk skips this step, which makes it risky.
According to Dr Bhuyan, raw milk can contain deadly bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, and even TB bacteria. These germs can cause strong food poisoning. People may suffer from vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, fever, and body aches. Some infections caused by raw milk can even be life-threatening.
The doctor warned that raw milk is especially dangerous for children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weak immune systems. This includes people who have diabetes, cancer, or those who have had organ transplants. For them, the bacteria in raw milk can cause very serious problems.
Dr Bhuyan also said that raw milk can be harmful for pregnant women. It can cause miscarriage, early delivery, or babies being born with very low weight. This happens because raw milk can carry Listeria, a bacteria that is very dangerous during pregnancy.
Many people believe that raw milk has more nutrients. But Dr Bhuyan said that the health risks are much bigger than any possible benefit. Milk is healthy only when it is made safe through pasteurisation.
The doctor’s message is simple: raw milk is not worth the risk. Drinking pasteurised milk is the safest way to enjoy the benefits of milk without putting your health in danger.
