Tehran, Iran: Iran's investigation into the helicopter crash that killed President Ebrahim Raisi has concluded that poor weather was the primary cause of the accident. The final report, released on Sunday by the special board assigned to the case, identified "complex climatic and atmospheric conditions" as the main factors.
The tragic incident occurred on May 19 when the helicopter, carrying 63-year-old Raisi and his entourage, crashed into a fog-covered mountainside in northern Iran. The crash resulted in the deaths of Raisi, seven other individuals, and also led to the announcement of snap elections in the country.
According to the investigation, the helicopter was downed by a "thick mass of dense and rising fog" which led to the fatal collision. The report dismissed earlier speculation and confirmed that there was no evidence of criminal activity involved in the crash.

The Iranian army, which conducted its own review, had previously reported no signs of foul play, echoing the findings of the final investigation. In August, Fars news agency had speculated that the crash was partly due to the helicopter's inability to ascend with two additional passengers, which was against security protocols. However, this claim was swiftly rejected by the Iranian armed forces as "completely false."
The investigation into the crash has been thorough, with a focus on the environmental and operational factors that contributed to the accident. The findings underscore the challenges of navigating in adverse weather conditions and reaffirm the commitment of Iranian authorities to address such critical issues in aviation safety.
