Indonesia has mobilized up to 20,000 troops for a planned peacekeeping mission in Gaza, with a focus on health, infrastructure, and humanitarian support, the country’s defence minister confirmed on Friday. The initiative forms part of broader multinational discussions involving the United States, Azerbaijan, Egypt, and Qatar.
The deployment highlights Indonesia’s commitment to contributing to stability in the war-torn enclave, where ongoing conflict has left millions in urgent need of medical care, shelter, and basic services. Defence officials said the troops have undergone specialized training in health operations, disaster response, and construction tasks to aid recovery and peacekeeping efforts.
The Indonesian government emphasized that this mission is humanitarian and stabilizing in nature, aimed at supporting civilians affected by the conflict rather than direct combat. The initiative comes amid international calls for a coordinated response to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Indonesia’s participation underscores its role as a leading Muslim-majority nation committed to global peacekeeping and humanitarian efforts. Officials noted that logistical planning, coordination with partner countries, and deployment protocols are underway to ensure a smooth and effective contribution to the multinational force.
The U.S. and allied countries have welcomed Indonesia’s readiness to participate, citing the importance of regional cooperation and the integration of specialized capabilities, including medical support, civil infrastructure restoration, and emergency response operations.
With tensions in Gaza continuing, the international community is looking at the planned peacekeeping mission as a critical step toward stabilizing the region, addressing humanitarian needs, and supporting long-term reconstruction efforts.
