Indigo, India's largest low-cost airline, recently warned its customers of potential flight disruptions due to heavy rainfall in Delhi. However, the uncharacteristically cheerful tone of their social media post did not sit well with many customers who were already anxious about the delays and cancellations amid record rainfall in the national capital.
Indigo's announcement read: "We have a special announcement straight from the heavenly skies! The rain gods have decided to shower Delhi with their blessings tonight. As a result, we’re expecting heavy rainfall throughout the night." The airline urged passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The cheerful tone of Indigo’s message faced immediate backlash on social media. Many users felt the airline's upbeat approach was inappropriate given the inconvenience caused by flight delays and cancellations.

X user Kartik expressed his frustration, saying, “Passengers are inconvenienced. That cheers you up, Indigo?” Another user, Abhishek Baxi, commented, “Easy, tiger! Never has someone announced flight delays with so much cheer.”
Journalist Jagriti Chandra questioned the airline's professionalism, asking, “Why is IndiGo6E announcing likely flight delays with so much cheer and enthusiasm? Interns on the job? Is (aviation) experience of no value?” Faisal Farooqui, CEO of MouthShut.com, urged Indigo to adopt a more formal tone when delivering bad news, stating, “Dear Indigo - Sometimes it’s ok to be formal and business-like. Everything doesn’t have to be fun. Fire your SM person.”
Another user advised the airline to reconsider their new social media hire, while one social media user took a jab at the airline's usual punctuality, asking why Indigo bothered to announce flight delays due to rain when it normally doesn't fly on time either.
Delhi Rainfall
Delhi NCR experienced heavy rainfall that inundated the city, paralyzing regular life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "red alert," warning that clouds had converged over Delhi from all directions, leading to severe waterlogging in many areas.
Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel on the city’s waterlogged roads. Both government and private schools were ordered to remain shut to ensure the safety of students. The heavy downpour caused significant disruptions, and authorities were working to manage the situation and restore normalcy as quickly as possible.
The combination of heavy rainfall and flight disruptions added to the frustration of Delhi's residents, many of whom took to social media to voice their concerns and criticisms
