A tragic incident unfolded at a London bus stop where a 66-year-old woman of Indian origin, Anita Mukhey, was fatally stabbed. The assailant, identified as 22-year-old Jalal Debella, allegedly attacked Mukhey as she waited at the Burnt Oak Broadway bus stop in the Edgware area of London. Mukhey, who worked part-time as a medical secretary for the National Health Service (NHS), succumbed to her injuries despite efforts from emergency services.
Debella appeared at the Old Bailey Court in London, where he was remanded in custody. He faces charges of Mukhey's murder and possession of an offensive weapon. The court scheduled his next hearing for August, during which he will enter his plea.

The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of the stabbing on May 9, with officers, London Ambulance Service (LAS), and London’s Air Ambulance (HEMS) rushing to the scene. Despite their efforts, Mukhey tragically passed away from knife wounds sustained in the attack. Her family was informed of the heartbreaking loss.
Debella was apprehended later on May 9 in the Colindale area of north London. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) disclosed that preliminary findings attributed Mukhey's death to sharp force injuries to the chest and neck.
In a statement issued through the police, Mukhey's family described her as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who also dedicated herself to serving in the NHS. The family requested privacy during this challenging period.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene, with members of the public screaming at the assailant to halt his assault. The incident has deeply shocked the local community, highlighting the urgency of addressing violence and ensuring public safety.
