A long and dangerous journey ended in deportation for 104 Indian migrants. They had traveled through many countries, facing dangerous sea trips, tough hikes, and being locked up at the US-Mexico border, only to be sent back to India.

One of the migrants, Harvinder Singh, from a village in Punjab, paid ₹42 lakh to an agent for a promised work visa to the United States. But at the last moment, he found out the visa didn't come through. Instead, he was sent on many flights, first to Qatar, then to Brazil.
After that, Singh and others had to walk through mountains to reach the coast. They were then put on a small boat to travel for four hours to Mexico. Sadly, the boat sank during the journey, and one person died. Another person died in the jungle in Panama. They survived on small amounts of rice during their hard trip.
Singh said that in Brazil, they were told there would be a flight from Peru, but that was not true. Then, taxis took them to Colombia and Panama, where they were promised a ship to continue their journey, but no ship ever arrived. They ended up walking for two days.
Another migrant, Sukhpal Singh from Darapur village, had a tough time too. He spent 15 hours on a boat and then walked 40-45 kilometers through dangerous hills. “People who got hurt were left behind. We saw many dead bodies,” he said.
Sukhpal’s journey stopped in Mexico, just before reaching the US. "We were kept in a dark cell for 14 days without seeing sunlight," he said. “There are many other Punjabis, families, and children in the same situation,” he added, telling others not to take dangerous paths to other countries.
The 104 migrants were sent back to India on a US military plane, landing in Amritsar. This was the first group of deported migrants under the Trump administration. Among them, 33 were from Haryana and Gujarat, 30 from Punjab, and the rest from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh. The group included 19 women and 13 minors.
