Indian Man, 33, Admits to Killing 10-Year-Old Daughter in the UK

Jaskirat Kaur, a 33-year-old Indian-origin woman, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her 10-year-old daughter at Wolverhampton Crown Court today. Kaur’s plea comes in the wake of the tragic death of her daughter, Shay Kang, who was found dead with stab wounds in their home earlier this year.

The body of Shay Kang was discovered on March 4, 2024, with multiple stab wounds in her chest. West Midlands Police arrested Kaur shortly after the discovery, at approximately 12:10 pm. Initially, Kaur denied the murder charge, but she has now admitted to manslaughter in court. Judge Michael Chambers has scheduled Kaur’s sentencing for October 25, where she is expected to appear in person.

Prosecution counsel Sally Howes KC confirmed that the plea to manslaughter was accepted by the Crown, with no disputes over the facts of the case. The court’s acceptance of the plea indicates that the prosecution is satisfied with the plea deal.

Following Shay’s death, Brickhouse Primary School, where she was a student, expressed deep sorrow. A statement from the school described Shay as a “bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well-liked by all” and noted that she would be “very sadly missed by everyone.”

In response to the tragedy, the local community rallied to support Shay’s funeral arrangements. Tributes including toys, cards, and balloons were left in her memory. An online GoFundMe campaign was set up by parents from the school to raise funds for Shay’s funeral and related expenses. The fundraiser highlighted the lack of family members aside from Kaur and expressed a collective desire to honor Shay’s memory in a beautiful way. The campaign read: “As you may be aware, she had no family except her mum. The purpose of this is to come together as a community to help raise funds for her funeral and also assist with flowers, headstone, etc. She didn't deserve this at all, and the best we can do is make sure she flies high in the most beautiful way.”
