Indian Cyclist Visits 103 Countries, Advocates 'Green' Message, Makes UAE Pitstop

Post by: Dr. Amrinder Pal Singh

Dr. Raj Phanden, also known as 'Cycle Baba,' has dedicated the last eight years of his life to environmental protection, spreading the message while traveling on his bicycle. With a Ph.D. in Ayurveda, he initiated the 'Wheels for Green' initiative, covering over 105,000 kilometers and visiting 103 countries to plant saplings and raise awareness about environmental issues.

Starting his mission in 2016 from Haryana, India, Dr. Raj has planted more than 110,000 saplings and conducted over 1,200 seminars, saving 45 tonnes of carbon. His foundation, Wheels for Green, focuses on educating people about environmental pollution, global warming, climate change, and sustainability.

During his daily routine, Cycle Baba covers 80 to 100 kilometers on his bicycle, sleeps in a tent, and relies on the generosity of the Indian diaspora for food and shelter. His expedition is not sponsored; he sustains his mission through revenue from YouTube videos.

Dr. Raj made a recent pitstop in the UAE to check on saplings he planted in 2018, expressing satisfaction with the progress. He emphasized his commitment to creating a greener and healthier planet.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cycle Baba revisited India, spending time with his family and emphasizing environmental conservation even in challenging times. Planning to continue his journey to Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, and China, he envisions reaching the Americas, starting from Argentina, and aiming to reach Alaska by 2030.

Dr. Raj's ultimate goal is to travel to every country, take a rest, and then embark on another mission to save the planet.
