In a significant gathering, Indian-American billionaire Vinod Khosla played host to US President Joe Biden at his Silicon Valley residence for an election fundraiser, where the Democratic Party's presumptive candidate garnered over USD 1.5 million in contributions. The event, held on Friday, marked President Biden's inaugural attendance at a fundraiser hosted by an Indian-American during the 2024 election cycle.
Tickets for the fundraiser, ranging from USD 6,600 to USD 100,000, attracted a diverse assembly of Indian-Americans from the Silicon Valley area, with approximately 50 seated attendees and 30 standing. During his 15-minute address, President Biden placed emphasis on immigration and women's rights, also touching upon the topic of Donald Trump.

While affirming that the US is not xenophobic, President Biden praised the contributions of immigrants to the nation's work ethic and economic growth. Notably, he refrained from mentioning India and Japan, a departure from his previous controversial remarks made at a fundraiser in Washington DC.
Introduced by host Vinod Khosla, President Biden expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and humorously remarked about his affection for dogs, which he quipped he prefers over people at times. Notably, senior White House officials, including President Biden's speechwriter Vinay Reddy, were in attendance.
The presidential convoy en route to the Khosla residence encountered both Israeli and pro-Palestinian groups, with displays of support and protest. President Biden seized the moment to deliver lighthearted jabs at former President Trump, referencing memorable moments from Trump's tenure.
Ajay Bhutoria, a member of the National Finance Committee of the Democratic National Committee and attendee of the fundraiser, highlighted the potential influence of Indian-Americans in pivotal battleground states, underscoring their support for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the forthcoming election.
Vinod Khosla's significant contributions to Democratic campaigns and organizations, totaling approximately USD 1.4 million, reflect his active involvement in political advocacy, particularly in technology, energy, and environmental issues. As a prominent venture capitalist and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, Khosla's investments in technology startups and commitment to clean technology and renewable energy further underscore his influence in both political and business spheres.
With President Biden poised to face former President Trump in the November 5, 2024, presidential election, the fundraiser at Vinod Khosla's residence signals the commencement of a high-stakes electoral campaign, setting the stage for a rematch between the two political heavyweights.
