India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, reiterated India's commitment to a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine conflict during a recent address at the UN General Assembly Meeting on the Use of Veto. Emphasizing the need for direct negotiations, Kamboj stated that India supports a solution where the Palestinian people can live freely in an independent country with secure borders, taking into account Israel's security needs.
She called for immediate de-escalation, condemning the loss of civilian lives and urging the release of hostages. Kamboj highlighted India's unwavering stance against terrorism, emphasizing the need to address the humanitarian crisis and respect international law. She expressed concern over the conflict's escalation triggered by terror attacks last October and called for scaled-up humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Touching upon recent developments, Kamboj noted that Hamas had adjusted its demands in negotiations for a hostage deal, leading to a pause in fighting. International efforts, including a meeting in Paris, contributed to resolving major obstacles, with Hamas showing flexibility on Israeli forces' withdrawal and the number of Palestinians to be freed. Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu has consistently rejected calls for a ceasefire, linking them to surrendering to Hamas.
