The Ministry of Community Development in Dubai has announced strict measures against unauthorized individuals and entities collecting funds during Ramadan. At a press conference, the ministry stated that those found engaging in such activities could face fines of up to Dh500,000 or even imprisonment. Additionally, restaurants are prohibited from directly donating food boxes to mosques. Only 34 approved entities, including charitable organizations and government entities, are authorized to receive and collect donations for Ramadan.
Mohammed Naqi, Director of Non-Benefit Public Associations Department, emphasized the consequences for violating regulations, stating that hefty fines or imprisonment would be imposed on those collecting or receiving donations from outside the UAE without proper authorization. Furthermore, individuals misusing donation funds for unauthorized purposes could face fines ranging from Dh150,000 to Dh300,000 or imprisonment. Additionally, any entity falsely labeling itself as a charitable or humanitarian organization without proper certification may be fined Dh100,000.
These measures underscore the government's commitment to regulating charitable activities during Ramadan and ensuring transparency and accountability in donation collection and utilization. It aims to prevent exploitation and misuse of funds while directing support to legitimate charitable causes approved by the authorities. The announcement serves as a reminder to individuals and organizations to adhere to legal procedures and guidelines when conducting charitable activities during the holy month.
