At the 13th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024), an innovative initiative aimed at preparing future leaders was unveiled. The “New Generation Skills for Kids” course, introduced on the opening day of the forum, was a collaborative effort between Strawberry Fields, a UK-based leader in analytical tools and growth strategies, and the Sharjah Private Education Authority.
The course, titled "New Generation Skills for Kids: Integrating Systems Thinking & Technology," was specifically designed for children and adolescents aged 8 to 15. Its goal was to equip young minds with essential communication and technological skills, preparing them to thrive in an increasingly complex digital world.
John Rainford, a renowned business coach, future technologist, and CEO of Strawberry Fields, led the programme. The course included a variety of interactive elements such as lectures, group discussions, and hands-on activities. Participants engaged in creative storytelling, collaboration, and other exercises aimed at fostering critical and creative thinking.

Rainford explained the course’s focus: “We are discussing the future of technology within various systems—be it educational, planetary, or ecological. Understanding these systems is crucial for developing effective solutions to the challenges we face.” He emphasized the importance of integrating systems thinking into early education to enhance problem-solving skills, revolutionize learning, and positively influence children’s health and well-being.
The programme aimed to help children navigate rapid technological advancements and improve their communication skills through practical methods like mind-mapping and logical thinking integration. Rainford highlighted that the holistic approach to education, combining emotional intelligence with systems thinking, is essential for preparing children for future challenges.
“The feedback from the children has been overwhelmingly positive,” Rainford noted. “It’s crucial that we extend these teachings to educators and parents as well. Emotional intelligence and systems thinking are powerful tools that should be part of lifelong learning.”
The course’s positive reception underscored the importance of continuing to develop these skills in both children and the adults who guide them. The initiative demonstrated a commitment to fostering a new generation equipped to handle the complexities of the modern world with a balanced approach to technology and systems understanding.
