The president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association in Katra, Rakesh Wazir, has reminded visitors to respect the religious sanctity of Mata Vaishno Devi by avoiding alcohol while staying in Katra. His statement comes after a case was filed against socialite Orhan Awatramani, popularly known as Orry, and seven others for allegedly consuming alcohol at a hotel near the holy shrine.
Wazir emphasized that alcohol is strictly banned in Katra and that even in hotel rooms, visitors should be mindful of this rule. "Katra has its own traditions. Alcohol is not allowed here, and even in our food, we avoid using garlic and onion to maintain the purity of Mata Vaishno Devi's shrine," he said. "Even if someone consumes alcohol inside a room, it is still against the principles we follow. Many people have asked how the hotel owner did not notice this happening. I have spoken with the hotel about it," he added.

FIR Filed Against Orry and Others
On March 15, the Katra police registered an FIR against Orhan Awatramani (Orry), Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Anastasila Arzamaskina. According to a press release from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the individuals were found consuming alcohol inside the premises of a hotel despite being informed that alcohol and non-vegetarian food are strictly prohibited in Katra, which is a religious site for Hindu devotees.
The police statement also mentioned that strict action was taken after authorities realized the seriousness of the matter. SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh (JKPS), gave clear instructions to take strong action against those who violated the rules, ensuring that religious sentiments are respected.
A special team, including SP Katra, DySP Katra, and SHO Katra, was formed to investigate the case and hold the responsible individuals accountable. The police further stated that such incidents will not be tolerated in religious areas, as they deeply hurt the feelings of the people who come to seek blessings at Mata Vaishno Devi.
Authorities have assured that necessary action will be taken against those involved to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
