Dubai: Hollywood actor, TV host, and former football player Terry Crews won hearts when he chose to stay back in Dubai instead of catching his scheduled flight. The reason? He wanted to help pack and serve iftar meals to workers on the first day of Ramadan.

Crews, famous for his roles in movies like White Chicks and The Expendables series, as well as the hit TV show Brooklyn Nine-Nine, took part in the iftar meal distribution organised by The Giving Family in Al Quoz Industrial Area.

A Surprise Visit with a Big Impact
Sabrina Rabhi, co-founder of The Giving Family, shared that Crews had originally planned to leave Dubai but changed his plans after seeing the volunteer work being done.

“He came by to see what we do and decided to delay his flight just to be part of it.

Not only did he help pack and distribute meals, but he also took time to speak to the volunteers, expressing how touched he was by their efforts.

Emotional Words of Appreciation
Videos shared online showed Crews praising Fadie Musallet, another co-founder of the initiative, and thanking the volunteers for their hard work.

With deep emotion, Crews said, “I am actually choked up. What you are doing today here means so much to so many people.”

He further added, “God bless each and every one of you. It means so much… I always say, all you have to do is help one. It’s not about helping everybody. It’s about helping just one person. And you are doing that today. So, give yourselves a big round of applause.”

Crews also shared that seeing the volunteers reminded him of his own family. He praised their kindness and humanity, saying that their efforts were helping to build a stronger community and city.

The Goal: 500,000 Iftar Meals
The Giving Family has set a big target for Ramadan 2025—they aim to distribute 500,000 meals throughout the holy month.

“On the first day alone, we started with 5,000 meals,” Rabhi said. “This year, our goal is to reach half a million meals.”

The campaign encourages people to sponsor meals and invites volunteers, including children, to help pack and serve food.

“We have hundreds of volunteers every day, including many children. It’s important to teach them about giving back, especially since we are so blessed to live here,” she added.

From Small Beginnings to Big Impact
The Giving Family was founded in 2017, with the simple idea of sharing 100 to 500 meals with Dubai’s labour workers. Over the years, it has grown into a massive community effort.

In 2024, the initiative distributed 350,000 meals during Ramadan, receiving recognition from Dubai Police and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation for its impact.

The number of meals distributed each day depends on donations, with some days reaching up to 20,000 meals.

More Than Just Meals: Collecting Clothes & Prayers
In addition to food, The Giving Family is also collecting pre-loved clothes and children’s toys this year.

“We have a truck every day where people can drop off clothes for men, women, and children,” Rabhi explained.

Another special feature is a whiteboard for prayers (duas), where people can write messages for sick or deceased loved ones. “It’s a way for everyone to come together and pray for others,” she added.

With the spirit of giving, kindness, and unity, The Giving Family and its volunteers, including Terry Crews, are making a real difference in Dubai this Ramadan.
