Torrential rain wreaked havoc in southeastern Texas on Thursday, leading to widespread flooding and prompting officials in Montgomery County to urge residents to evacuate. The storm system unleashed heavy downpours across Montgomery County, situated on the northern periphery of Harris County and Houston. Substantial rainfall along the San Jacinto River resulted in flooded roads, prompting Montgomery County officials to issue a voluntary evacuation order.
According to National Weather Service meteorologist Hayley Adams, the region received approximately 5 to 8 inches (13 to 20 centimeters) of rain within a 24-hour period, with localized areas experiencing even higher accumulations of 10 to 12 inches (25-30 centimeters). Forecasters anticipated continued rainfall through Friday morning, exacerbating the flood situation.

Despite the deluge, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities, as confirmed by Adams. However, authorities remain vigilant as the weather service issued warnings of flash flooding, particularly in Houston, including the vicinity of Bush Intercontinental Airport.
In response to rising water levels, the San Jacinto River Authority took preemptive measures by closing Lake Conroe in Montgomery County and initiating controlled releases from the dam to manage reservoir levels. County officials cautioned residents downstream of the dam to brace for imminent flooding as excess water is discharged.
Emergency management officials emphasized the potential for flooding reminiscent of the catastrophic deluge caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda in 2019. Imelda unleashed over 40 inches (102 centimeters) of rain in certain areas, leading to widespread devastation and significant property damage.
As southeastern Texas grapples with the aftermath of heavy rainfall, residents are urged to remain vigilant and heed evacuation orders to ensure their safety amid the ongoing flood threat.
