Haryana Brothers Arrested: Indian Student Killed in Australia

Post by : Elena Malik

Two brothers from Haryana, Abhijeet and Robin Gartan, have been apprehended in Australia following the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old MTech student, Navjeet Sandhu, hailing from India. The incident occurred in the Melbourne suburb of Ormond, prompting swift action from law enforcement. The arrests took place in New South Wales's Goulburn on Tuesday, just two days after the tragic event unfolded.

Officials from Victoria Police confirmed the arrests, stating, "Brothers Abhijeet and Robin Gartan were apprehended in Goulburn with the assistance of NSW Police." Both the victim and the suspects hailed from Karnal, Haryana.

According to accounts provided by the victim's uncle, Sandhu was fatally stabbed in the chest during a confrontation related to a rent dispute among a group of Indian students. Sandhu, who attempted to mediate the situation, tragically became a victim himself. His friend, a 30-year-old Indian student, also sustained injuries during the altercation.

"Navjeet's friend had requested his assistance in retrieving his belongings from a residence. While his friend went inside, Navjeet intervened in a heated argument, urging them to cease the altercation. Tragically, he was stabbed in the chest during the altercation," Sandhu's uncle, Yashvir, recounted.

Navjeet, described as a brilliant student, was slated to reunite with his family in July for vacation. He had migrated to Australia on a study visa eighteen months ago, with his father, a farmer, selling a portion of their land to finance his education.

The authorities had earlier released details and images of the two brothers sought in connection with the Ormond stabbing. Abhijeet, aged 26, is approximately 170cm tall, with a solid build and black hair. Robin Gartan, aged 27, shares similar physical attributes, standing at 170cm tall with a solid build and black hair.
