Kamala Harris took to social media to inform her followers about her recent visit to Georgia, where she interacted with individuals affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. However, her timing drew criticism from netizens who argued that her response was too late and that she should have acted more promptly. Harris reportedly traveled to Augusta to assess the damage resulting from the disaster.
In the meantime, President Joe Biden approved Governor Brian Kemp's request for 100% reimbursement of local cleanup costs. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that it would provide $750 to certain individuals with immediate needs. Many commenters on Harris's post highlighted that this amount seemed minimal given the extent of the damage.

While sharing photos from her visit, Harris wrote, “Over the past few days, communities in the southeast have endured destruction and devastation. While in Augusta, Georgia today, I spoke with people impacted by Hurricane Helene. I also received briefings from those who are working around the clock to help folks on the ground. We will continue to do everything we can to help communities recover.”
Despite her efforts to showcase her involvement, Harris faced a torrent of criticism on social media. Users on X (formerly Twitter) expressed their anger in the comments section. One user questioned, “Did you also get the update that FEMA doesn't have enough money for hurricane victims because you flooded our country with illegal aliens and they've spent all of their money on them? Did you catch that one between shots?” Another commenter argued, “They need $750 A WEEK! Not $750 one time!”
Concerns were also raised about the lack of visible emergency response during the hurricane, with one user stating, “Why didn't we see videos of helicopter and rafts rescuing people during the storm? We likely wouldn't have needed such an extensive search and recovery if we had been a bit proactive.” Others expressed frustration with the timing and the assistance offered, with comments like, “So late on this...and $750...WTF!” and “Kamala poses for photo ops and fake virtue signals.”
Critics further asserted that FEMA's lack of funds was a result of the administration's mismanagement. One user wrote, “But FEMA is out of money because of your administration's mismanagement. You are wholly unqualified to be president.” Another added, “You're giving the victims $750. That's all. You give illegals thousands. People see you hate American citizens. Voting Trump.”
In a separate post, Harris acknowledged the efforts of those working in Georgia, expressing her gratitude: “Thank you to all those who are doing critical work in Georgia and throughout the region to get folks the support and the relief that they so desperately need, and so rightly deserve, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.”
