Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula One world champion, has expressed his excitement as he prepares for a fresh start with Ferrari. After a remarkable 12 years with Mercedes, where he secured six of his world titles, Hamilton has made the bold decision to join the legendary Italian racing team.
Speaking on Friday, Hamilton shared his enthusiasm for the year ahead, calling his move to Ferrari an opportunity to embrace change and inspire others. “I couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead,” Hamilton posted on LinkedIn. “Joining Scuderia Ferrari has given me a chance to reflect deeply. Change is powerful, and it pushes us to grow.”

Hamilton encouraged others to take similar leaps in their own lives. “Whether you’re switching industries, learning something new, or stepping into a challenge, remember that reinvention can lead to amazing opportunities. Let’s make 2025 a year of purpose and progress. Andiamo!” He signed off with the hashtag #newjob and included a heartwarming photo of himself as a child, karting in a red helmet.
A New Journey with Ferrari
Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari comes after an extended period of consideration. Known as one of the most celebrated teams in Formula One history, Ferrari offers the Englishman, who turns 40 this week, a chance to achieve an unprecedented eighth world title. This would break his tie with the legendary Michael Schumacher.
Hamilton will unveil Ferrari’s 2025 car alongside teammate Charles Leclerc on February 19 at the team’s Maranello headquarters in Italy. Pre-season testing is scheduled in Bahrain shortly afterward. His first official race with the team will take place at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, from March 14 to 16.
Adapting to New Surroundings
Although Hamilton is no stranger to success, joining a new team brings its challenges. Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, emphasized the importance of the coming weeks. “The first six weeks are critical,” Vasseur explained during Ferrari’s Christmas event. “Lewis is bringing incredible experience, but it’s always a challenge to adapt to new surroundings. However, I have no doubts about his ability to succeed.”
To ease the transition, Hamilton will spend time at Ferrari’s factory, work with the simulator, and even drive a 2023 car to get a better feel for the team’s operations and culture.
Hamilton’s move comes at a time when Ferrari is hungry for success. Last year, the team narrowly missed the constructors’ title to McLaren and hasn’t won a championship in nearly 20 years. For Hamilton, the chance to bring Ferrari back to its winning ways is a challenge worth taking.
Hamilton’s 2024 season ended on a high note as he broke a two-and-a-half-year winless streak by clinching victory at the British Grand Prix. However, he finished seventh in the drivers’ championship, far behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
