Morocco’s social security office was attacked by hackers this week. A lot of private data was stolen and shared on the Telegram app. This office helps millions of workers in Morocco with their pension and insurance — from factory workers to company bosses.

The office said hackers broke into their computer system. They are still checking how it happened. They also said many of the leaked papers are not fully true or are missing parts.
The hackers who posted the data said they did it because Morocco was being mean to Algeria online. They said if Algeria gets attacked again, they will do more hacks.
Morocco says Algerian hackers might have done this. People think this is part of a cyber fight between Morocco and Algeria.
Morocco and Algeria don’t get along well now. They have stopped talking, closed their embassies, and even stopped flights between each other. One big reason is that Algeria supports a group that wants freedom for Western Sahara, which Morocco claims as its own land.
Some of the leaked papers show how much money some people earn. If those numbers are real, they show that some people in Morocco earn a lot more than others. The leaked files also talk about people in government, companies, the royal family, and even Israel’s office in Morocco.
Morocco’s data safety group said they are ready to help anyone whose private data was leaked.
The Moroccan government said the hack happened because more countries now support Morocco in its fight over Western Sahara. The government thinks the enemies of Morocco are angry about that.
A top U.S. leader, Marco Rubio, said this week that he supports Morocco’s plan for the land. Algeria did not like that. In 2020, U.S. President Donald Trump said America supports Morocco’s claim. The new U.S. president, Joe Biden, has not said much about it since then.
