Gunmen Open Fire at French Wedding 1 Dead, 5 Injured, Report Says

In northeastern France's Thionville, a tragic incident unfolded at a wedding reception where masked gunmen opened fire, resulting in one fatality and five injuries, as confirmed by police sources on Sunday. The attack, occurring at a reception hall overnight from Saturday to Sunday, occurred while approximately one hundred guests were present.

According to reports, the shooting occurred around 1:15 AM when a group of individuals stepped outside to smoke, and three heavily armed men arrived in a 4X4 vehicle, believed to be a BMW, and began firing towards them. The assailants quickly fled the scene following the attack, leaving behind a chaotic and terrifying scene.

Among the injured, two individuals sustained serious wounds, with one person in critical condition. The motive behind the attack is suspected to be linked to a dispute among drug traffickers, rather than specifically targeting the wedding itself. Law enforcement officials are investigating the incident, considering the proximity of Thionville to the borders of Luxembourg and Germany.

The aftermath of the shooting revealed bullet-riddled glass doors at the reception hall, serving as stark evidence of the violence that erupted. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators and ascertain the origins of the vehicle used in the attack.

This incident in Thionville comes amidst ongoing concerns about violence related to drug trafficking in the region. Just last May in nearby Villerupt, a similar outbreak of violence resulted in five injuries during shootings between rival gangs at a known drug dealing location.
