On Saturday, Greta Thunberg, alongside activists from Extinction Rebellion, orchestrated a dramatic blockade of Norway's largest oil and gas processing plant, Karsto, located in southwest Norway. Despite the activists' efforts, the plant, operated by Equinor, continued to function normally.
Extinction Rebellion Norway detailed their protest on social media, reporting that eight kayaks and three motorboats had entered the plant's security zone in an attempt to disrupt tanker operations. Activists also gathered on land to obstruct the facility’s gates, aiming to halt the plant's activities.

In a statement, Greta Thunberg emphasized the urgency of their protest: “We cannot stand idly by as the fossil fuel industry robs people of their lives and destabilizes our life support systems.”
Karsto is a critical facility in Europe’s energy infrastructure, handling around 30 oil and gas fields. Despite the blockade, Equinor confirmed that the plant remained operational. Ellen Maria Skjelbaek, a spokeswoman for the company, acknowledged the protest but assured that “the plant is operating as normal” amid the ongoing demonstration.
The protest highlights ongoing tensions and actions related to climate change, with activists targeting major fossil fuel infrastructure to draw attention to their cause.
