Minnesota Governor Tim Walz found himself embroiled in controversy on Monday after a Republican strategist alleged that he had misrepresented his family dog, Scout, on social media. Dustin Grage, a GOP strategist, took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Walz of faking Scout’s identity by comparing two different images of dogs the governor had shared.
In June 2022, Walz posted a photo on social media featuring a Labrador retriever mix with a caption celebrating Scout’s birthday. However, another photo from October of the same year, also posted by Walz, showed a different dog with a caption about enjoying a day at the dog park. Grage pointed out the discrepancy, suggesting that Walz had used photos of two different dogs while referring to them both as Scout.

The controversy was further fueled by a video posted by Walz on Instagram on the same day as the second photo. In the video, Walz is seen at a dog park, wearing the same jacket as in the October photo. He is seen interacting with multiple dogs, including one that appears different from the dog in the birthday photo.
The issue gained traction when Grage highlighted the inconsistencies on social media, noting that the two dogs in the photos were clearly different. “Yes, this is Tim Walz tweeting about his dog Scout. Only problem is that these are two completely different dogs,” Grage wrote on X.
Following the backlash, Walz removed the dog park video from his X account. The governor has not yet addressed the allegations or commented on the accusations made by Grage. The controversy has sparked widespread discussion and criticism, with many questioning the authenticity of Walz’s social media posts about his pet.
