His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, emphasized Dubai's thriving aviation and tech ecosystem, stating, “Dubai has a thriving aviation and tech ecosystem, which creates the ideal environment to nurture innovation in aviation. Aviation Future Week addresses vital issues, including the enormous impact of aviation on global mobility and prosperity, and the critical role of technology in mitigating industry challenges. The insightful discussions, diverse perspectives, and viable use cases over the next three days will serve as a springboard for envisioning a better future for the industry.”
The first day of AFW attracted prominent leaders from the aerospace industry, highlighting the event’s role as a significant platform for innovation and strategic partnerships.
During a session titled ‘How Dubai is Setting Future Trends in Aviation and Logistics’, His Excellency Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), stressed Dubai’s pivotal role in shaping the future of aviation. He noted that Dubai possesses the knowledge, experience, and innovation-first mindset to leverage advanced technologies like AI and robotics to stay ahead of industry disruptions.
Addressing the audience, HE Belhoul remarked, “Aviation will be disrupted top-down – whether it’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), logistics and cargo, or leveraging AI to enhance the customer journey.” He attributed the UAE’s advantage to its leaders, who are willing to take calculated risks to drive innovation in the aviation sector.
In a session on balancing traffic demand with innovative passenger solutions, Abdul Wahab Teffaha, Secretary General of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO), highlighted the importance of enhancing the passenger journey amid growing demand for air travel. He pointed out that while the future of aviation is promising, it is not guaranteed and emphasized the need for the industry to address three key challenges: staying abreast of technological advancements, transitioning to a decentralized system that treats customers as individuals, and addressing its contribution to climate change.
During a session titled ‘Optimising Traffic Demand in a Constrained Environment’, industry leaders including Adel Al Redha, Deputy President & COO of Emirates Airline, discussed the growing role of low-cost carriers and narrow-body aircraft in regional connectivity. Al Redha noted the significant challenge in meeting the demand for aircraft and supplies.
The session on enhancing airport experiences featured insights from leaders including His Excellency Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation. The discussion centered around modernizing airport infrastructure and customer touchpoints with futuristic technologies. Participants agreed on the necessity of collaboration among stakeholders to develop regulatory frameworks that allow for the deployment of technologies like biometrics to enhance the customer journey.
In a session focused on future cabin features and onboard communications, industry experts shared visions for what aircraft cabins could look like in the future and discussed the latest technologies enhancing the onboard passenger experience.
