Germany's Deputy Head of Mission, Georg Enzweiler, announced a remarkable 30% growth in tourism from India to Germany in 2023, with over 800,000 overnight stays recorded. Speaking at a joint press conference by the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) and German Embassy in India, Enzweiler attributed this surge to the lifting of COVID restrictions, allowing German tourism to rebound. He emphasized Germany's commitment to sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and its appeal to Indian travelers seeking responsible travel experiences.

Enzweiler highlighted Germany's upcoming Euro Cup event in June, along with its 52 UNESCO World Heritage sites, picturesque villages, and innovative eco-tourism initiatives as major attractions for Indian tourists. He expressed delight at the growing interest among Indian tourists in exploring Germany and noted the country's significant role in fostering people-to-people contacts, thereby strengthening bilateral partnerships.
Moreover, Enzweiler mentioned the steep rise in Indian students studying in Germany, with 42,578 students enrolled as of 2023, making them the largest international community on German campuses. This trend underscores the strong educational ties between India and Germany, as highlighted by former German Ambassador Philipp Ackermann, who emphasized Germany's appeal to Indian students due to its reputable universities and the significant economic partnership between the two countries.
Romit Theophilus, Director of Marketing and Sales Office - India, GNTO, echoed Enzweiler's sentiments, emphasizing the growing presence of Indian students on German campuses and the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between India and Germany.
Overall, the surge in tourism and educational exchanges between India and Germany underscores the deepening ties and mutual interest in fostering closer cooperation across various sectors.
