In a significant operation on Tuesday, German police arrested eight individuals linked to a far-right militant organization known as the Sächsische Separatisten, or Saxonian Separatists. The arrests were confirmed by Germany's public prosecutor, who stated that some of the suspects are minors and adolescents.

According to the prosecutor's office, this group consists of approximately 15 to 20 members who are united by their extremist beliefs, which include racist, antisemitic, and apocalyptic ideologies. The group allegedly shares a profound rejection of Germany’s liberal democratic order and harbors beliefs that the nation is on the verge of collapse.

The prosecutor’s statement revealed that the Saxonian Separatists had devised plans to seize power in Saxony and possibly other eastern German states, with intentions to establish governmental and societal structures inspired by National Socialism. Justice Minister Marco Buschmann condemned their inhumane agenda, noting that "even ethnic cleansing was part of their plans."

The arrests served as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats to the constitutional state and democratic principles in Germany. Minister Buschmann emphasized the importance of defending the nation's liberal democracy against its adversaries.

The eight suspects were apprehended in various locations throughout Saxony, while their alleged ringleader was arrested in Poland. The operation involved over 450 police officers and special forces who conducted searches at 20 different premises connected to the suspects.

Since its formation in 2020, the militant group has been reportedly engaged in ongoing preparations for a violent change of government, which they believe is inevitable. The prosecutor's office noted that members of the group, including those arrested, participated in paramilitary training that included urban warfare tactics and firearms handling. They also acquired military-grade equipment such as camouflage fatigues, combat helmets, gas masks, and bullet-proof vests.

In addition to the eight arrested, seven other suspects were investigated during the raids but were not detained.

Germany has a history of dismantling far-right groups that seek to overthrow the government. Notably, in 2022, a group known as Reichsbürger attempted to storm the parliament building in Berlin with plans to arrest lawmakers, intending to negotiate a post-coup order primarily with Russia, a historical ally from World War II.

Government and security officials in Germany have long warned of the increasing threat posed by far-right extremists to the country's democratic structure.
