Massive protests erupted in Georgia's capital as throngs of demonstrators blocked streets and gathered outside the parliament building in anger. This came after lawmakers passed a controversial 'foreign influence' bill on Tuesday, despite vehement opposition from the US and the European Union.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili strongly condemned the bill, labeling it as 'unacceptable' during an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday. She criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party for pushing through legislation that critics argue poses a serious threat to freedom of speech and undermines Georgia's ambitions to join the European Union.

The bill has sparked widespread public outcry, leading to a surge in protests across the capital city. Demonstrators voiced their discontent by blocking key thoroughfares and assembling outside the parliament building, expressing frustration at what they perceive as an assault on democratic principles.

President Zourabichvili, increasingly at odds with the ruling party, has vowed to veto the bill. However, Georgian Dream possesses a sufficient majority to override any presidential veto, raising concerns about the future of free speech and democratic values in Georgia.
