French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan's King Abdullah II met at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Monday, where they jointly urged Israel to lift all land-based restrictions on aid deliveries to Gaza. This call comes amidst ongoing concerns raised by UN agencies about critical shortages of essential supplies in Gaza, exacerbated by limited access via land routes and the closure of the Rafah crossing controlled by Israel since early May.
During their lunch meeting, Macron and Abdullah II emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. They also highlighted the plight of hostages, including two French nationals, and expressed deep concern over violence perpetrated by settlers in the West Bank.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a two-state solution as the basis for a lasting and credible peace in the region. They welcomed ongoing reforms by the Palestinian government and called for their continuation.

Turning to the escalating tensions along the Israeli-Lebanese border, Macron and Abdullah II cautioned against actions that could lead to a broader conflict, stressing the importance of responsibility and restraint from all parties involved.
The current conflict in Gaza erupted following an unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, resulting in significant casualties on both sides, predominantly among civilians. Hamas operatives also seized hostages, with a significant number still in captivity.
Israel's military response to Hamas's actions has been severe, leading to a high number of casualties in Gaza, according to reports from health officials in the Hamas-ruled territory.
This diplomatic initiative by Macron and Abdullah II underscores their shared commitment to alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza while advocating for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
