Torrential floods in Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces of Afghanistan have left a devastating trail of destruction, claiming the lives of 16 people, including women and children, as reported by TOLO News. Local officials revealed that the floods wreaked havoc on over 500 houses, either completely sweeping them away or inflicting severe damage. The affected areas include Dand-e-Ghori, Doshi, Pul-e-Khumri city, Morchak village in central Badakhshan, and several other parts of the provinces, exacerbating the plight of the affected communities.
In Baghlan province's Doshi district, the situation is particularly dire, with six casualties reported in the Larkhab area. Among the deceased are three children, one woman, and two men, with over 300 houses ravaged by the ferocious floods, according to Baghlan Police Command chief Abdul Ghafoor Khadem.
Similarly, in Badakhshan province, the floods inflicted tragedy upon ten members of a single family, leaving one person injured, shared Mohammad Kamgar, the head of Natural Disaster Management. The floods have left many families bereft of their loved ones and homes, prompting urgent calls for aid from both the Taliban-led government and humanitarian agencies.

Survivors, grappling with profound loss and devastation, lamented the delayed arrival of assistance. Hizbullah, who lost nine family members to the flood, expressed anguish over the situation, highlighting the dire need for immediate support. Another victim, Ziaullah, echoed similar sentiments, urging authorities not to overlook the plight of flood-affected communities.
The calamitous floods have claimed more than 300 lives in the past week, wreaking havoc on residential homes and agricultural lands. The humanitarian crisis has been compounded by logistical challenges, with many affected areas rendered inaccessible by vehicles. In response, the World Food Programme mobilized alternative means, such as donkeys, to deliver essential supplies to the stranded survivors in Baghlan.
Despite the immense challenges, humanitarian efforts persist to alleviate the suffering of flood victims and provide crucial assistance to the affected communities. However, the road to recovery remains steep, underscoring the urgent need for sustained support and solidarity in the face of adversity.
