Ferris Wheel Blaze at German Festival Injures 30 Attendees

A summer music festival in Germany turned into a scene of chaos and fear when a Ferris wheel caught fire, injuring at least 30 people, including four police officers. The incident occurred at the Highfield Festival, held at Stormthaler Lake, and has been widely reported, including by the New York Post.

The fire ignited at approximately 9:13 PM, starting in a lower gondola and quickly spreading to an adjacent one. As flames engulfed the two gondolas, the Ferris wheel continued to spin, terrifying festival-goers. Videos from the scene show the Ferris wheel operating with the two gondolas ablaze, while thick black smoke filled the night sky, accompanied by the screams of onlookers.

In an effort to contain the fire, operators stopped the Ferris wheel and reversed its direction, positioning the burning gondolas closer to the top of the wheel. The fire's intensity was evident, with the flames burning white-hot at their center, as captured in the videos.

Fortunately, the majority of the injuries sustained by the 30 victims were relatively minor, consisting mainly of smoke inhalation. However, two individuals were reported to have been seriously injured, requiring more intensive medical attention.

During the chaos, German rapper Ski Aggu was performing on stage. Despite the growing crisis, he was instructed to continue his performance to prevent mass panic among the festival crowd. "I was just told through my earpiece that I should not end the show under any circumstances," Aggu later shared on Instagram, explaining that he was urged to carry on with his set to avoid further hysteria.

Firefighters eventually managed to extinguish the flames by tipping the burning gondolas upside down, effectively preventing the fire from spreading to other parts of the Ferris wheel. Despite their efforts, the two gondolas were completely destroyed by the blaze.

The fire has since been brought under control, and investigations into the cause are underway. Organizers have pointed to a technical malfunction as the likely source of the fire, though details are still emerging. According to police spokeswoman Josephin Sader, all 30 of the injured, including the four police officers, are expected to recover fully from their injuries.

This shocking incident has cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a night of music and celebration, raising questions about the safety protocols in place at large-scale events like the Highfield Festival. As authorities continue to investigate, festival-goers are left to reflect on a night that could have ended in even greater tragedy.
