Family Development Foundation Launches New Barakat Al Dar Social Clubs in Al Ain and Al Sila'

The Family Development Foundation (FDF) has officially inaugurated two new Barakat Al Dar social clubs in Al Ain and Al Sila’ to enhance the wellbeing of senior citizens and improve their overall quality of life. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by FDF to create spaces where older adults can actively engage in community life, strengthening family bonds and societal ties.

The Barakat Al Dar social clubs are designed to encourage seniors and residents to participate in various activities aimed at fostering a sense of community and care. The clubs focus on providing comprehensive support and nurturing an environment of respect and dignity for all members, aligning with FDF’s mission to elevate the living standards of older citizens and ensure their happiness and active participation in society.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures, including His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, and Her Excellency Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director General of FDF. The event saw participation from various Abu Dhabi government officials, strategic partners, representatives from public and private sectors, FDF staff, and senior citizens.

During the event, His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili commended the FDF for its dedication to establishing specialized social clubs aimed at enhancing the lives of senior citizens. He emphasized that these clubs will offer proactive programs and community initiatives that promote inclusion and encourage seniors to take part in social activities, thereby facilitating their engagement with younger generations. The clubs serve as vital platforms for social care, empowering older adults to actively contribute to their families and communities.

Dr. Al Khaili stated, “The Barakat Al Dar clubs represent a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for families in Abu Dhabi, with a focus on our senior citizens. These initiatives align with the UAE’s broader goals of societal welfare and strengthening family bonds, reflecting the invaluable role families play in sustainable development.”

He further noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the UAE leadership, particularly the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Dr. Al Khaili stressed the importance of ensuring comprehensive care and support for senior citizens to enhance their stability and happiness. 

Her Excellency Mariam Mohammed Al Rumaithi expressed pride in launching the Barakat Al Dar social clubs, which she noted provide seniors with comprehensive social care. She credited the success of this initiative to the unwavering support of the UAE’s leadership, which emphasizes the importance of integrating senior citizens into society. 

“Establishing these clubs aligns with the vision of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the Mother of the Nation, who is dedicated to improving the lives of senior citizens. Her continuous guidance reinforces our efforts and aligns with our strategic goal of assisting families, particularly senior citizens. The foundation remains committed to offering a wide range of services that encompass social, health, psychological, educational, and entertainment aspects,” Her Excellency said.

Her Excellency highlighted that the UAE has made significant strides in catering to the needs of its senior citizens, reflecting the nation’s deep-rooted respect and honor for the contributions of older generations. She reaffirmed FDF's commitment to providing ongoing support and services designed to enhance the wellbeing of senior citizens and residents.

The launch of the Barakat Al Dar social clubs coincides with the organization of the seventh Senior Citizens and Residents Social Forum 2024, themed “Enhancing the Quality of Life for Senior Citizens.” This forum will take place across all FDF centers and is supported by a trained team focused on ensuring the comfort and wellbeing of seniors. The clubs will provide various proactive services and community initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for this demographic.

Moreover, Her Excellency remarked on the positive findings of the 2024 World Happiness Report, which ranks senior citizens in the UAE among the happiest globally. The report illustrates the essential role of senior citizens in maintaining family cohesion and social harmony, underlining FDF’s commitment to their care and wellbeing.

Her Excellency expressed her deep appreciation for the ongoing support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, whose vision continues to guide the foundation's success. The achievements of FDF contribute to the UAE’s efforts to bolster social leadership and ensure family stability and societal cohesion under the wise leadership of the nation.

She also acknowledged the vital role of His Excellency Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili in laying the groundwork for support structures that promote the wellbeing of senior citizens. The staff of FDF have been instrumental in implementing various plans, projects, and programs focused on enhancing the psychological and social wellbeing of older adults, ensuring they receive the attention and care they deserve.
