In a highly anticipated event for cricket fans worldwide, India and Pakistan are poised to square off in a group stage match at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9th. This encounter holds immense significance as the two cricketing giants have not engaged in a bilateral series for over a decade. With matches between them restricted to ICC and ACC tournaments, the rivalry between India and Pakistan remains one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures in the cricketing calendar.
Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has stirred controversy by alleging that the ICC has orchestrated the schedule to ensure India and Pakistan meet twice in the tournament. Basit claimed on his YouTube channel that the ICC intends for the arch-rivals to clash again in either the semi-final or final, in addition to their group stage encounter on June 9th.

"The ICC wants India and Pakistan to have two matches in the World Cup. They have made the schedule so the two teams can meet again either in the semi-final or final. The venue we will get to know in due course. Now, it all depends on performance. Pakistan is a bit low on their form, while India, on the other hand, has played IPL and looks in good shape. For Pakistan to perform well, Babar must open," Basit stated in a video on his YouTube channel.
India and Pakistan find themselves placed in Group A alongside Ireland, Canada, and T20 World Cup co-hosts, the USA. India will kick off their campaign against Ireland on June 5th, while Pakistan's first match will be against the USA a day later.
The squads for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 have been announced, with India led by Rohit Sharma. The squad includes stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah, along with promising talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Suryakumar Yadav. Pakistan, under the leadership of Babar Azam, boasts a formidable lineup featuring the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shadab Khan.
As the cricketing world eagerly awaits this high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan, all eyes will be on the players to deliver riveting performances on the field, shaping the narrative of yet another chapter in this historic rivalry.
